The Result: Or Is It?
This line (A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose) is often followed by the line, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." But did you know that Gertrude Stein first made the statement, "A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose," in a 1913 poem titled, "Sacred Emily," but for some bizarre poetic anomoly this line has been historically paired with a line from Shakespeare from the 1594 play Romeo and Juliet, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Oh, I agree they belong together but they were conceived over 200 years apart. This is ONE of the most common assumptions by the public when it comes to poetic quotations.

The Furry Friend Challenge...04/27/09

The Result: The New GuyI had a whole different shot to add to this Furry Friend challenge but was diverted by a real-life situation that I wanted to share! My hubby and I are those softies who take in foster/rescue pups. The little Beagle in the center was found wondering on a back road with no collar by my daughter and her friend. He was dirty and very hungry. They took him home, gave him a bath, fed him, then set out to find a home for him. They found him a home but his new parents can't take him until May 25 so he gets to live with my hubby and I until then. Max ensured that the puppy acted 'correctly' and that Marlowe and Charlie were respectful. Marlowe has taken over the parenting effort by making sure Murphey knows the house rules. So far, there has not been one mishap! This is one smart little guy. I looked him up on the web (mainly checking the 'Lost Dog' postings) and found that his coloring is somewhat a designer thing (called chocolate, lemon, and white). He will go to the vet tomorrow for a check-up and to see if he's been micro chipped. If he has been, we'll see to it that he gets back home (if they want him).

I'll have a month to spend with him to get him trained in the fine doggie art of being a lap dog.
