kre8ive > THIRD PLACE!...10/03/08

Out of 173 pieces of photography, this took third place (and yes, I was surprised)! Here's what the judges had to say, "It turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. There was a lot of thought behind it, with a cohesive subject that tells a story, and executed very well. Technically, it is very good - the repitition of shapes, which then gets repeated in the framing is very interesting. The presentation is very hard to pull off and very few get it right. It works because this would not be successful if the images were separate." (***blush***)

My thanks go out to all of you who put your 2₵ in on my choices of what prints to submit. "Please, Have a Seat" was also favored by the judges but only one photo could place. I, personally, liked both but for different aspects of the framed work. Presentation always matters. Dave, you called it and I appreciate that! (Uh, my acceptance speech.)

Tonight's turn out at the gallery was unprecedented. It was a large catered affair (with great wines and foods) and, even though this is a very large gallery, it was packed! It was SO FUN telling people how I did the technical stuff and probably more fun telling them where the inspiration came from (uh, I bought this really pretty tea cup!). My hubby was with me and he spoke to the people that I couldn't get to and I know he was proud. I'm ready for the next competition ("Memories") with my "Old Harley" photo. It will not be judged on technical merit (as was the case tonight) but on it's relativity to the competition title. I may get to submit two pieces so I will either go through what I have or set out to create a nostalgic piece. I think my "Old Gas Pump" could come in handy here. I also have an 8 x 10 wall I need to fill with framed works for October 25. Wow...this is just so exciting!

Here I go blogging again...sorry!

My Lilac Crown Amazon loves the vacuum cleaner but today he went one step further (while I was vacuuming) and fell in love with the camera.
kre8ive > Preliminary Screen Test...06/18/08

Eye-opening Treat and Eco-friendly!

Adrienne (on right) and Rocky (uh, left) were brought out tonight for a preliminary test shot. Adrienne (my little gal) is normally my screen queen as she is so accommodating when it comes to my bizarre demands. Rocky knows he's a frog and pees on me all the time and wants to jump at every opportunity! When there's a mutt kitty in the studio [uh, dining room (Six)], that can be dangerous! The froggy spray bottle becomes a Six deterrent at that point.

Neither of these little froggies were 'clean' for the shot. As I was setting angles, it didn't really matter (I would never use a flash on-camera for a shot like this). Adrienne even took to jumping tonight (I didn't think she was capable) as Rocky wanted to jump to any other surface besides the cup! I will need a lab assistant for this one (I'll get my agent/daughter to help)! Rocky also gets bored within 30 seconds and falls asleep! I need an assistant to tickle his nose to keep him awake.

This is going to the PR folks at Starbucks (they are expecting it at this point) so it has to be perfect! It will take hours to get it right (or, at least hours of shooting to make sure it's right). The second photo they want is of little Adrienne/Rocky babies hanging on, as well, to send the message that they have plenty available for the little ones too. Yep, I've actually researched Red-Eyed Tree Frog husbandry and baby care! I will ensure the babies grow up to be productive (handled and photogenic) offspring of Adrienne.

The Red-Eyed Tree Frog has become a spokes-symbol for environmentalism even though it is hardy and not endangered. It has big, recognizable eyes, which is a young mammal attribute (making them more adorable to folks). Kittens, puppies, and human babies have much larger eyes (proportion-wise when compared to their adults) and this is an AWE factor. This is often attributed to an evolutionary survival technique (adults can recognize the young and protect them from predators).

Okay, this has turned into a blog-event again. Sorry! But, if I ever get Balboa eggs, you will be the first to see them!

PS: Even though I would normally refrigerate cold-blooded creatures to ensure they won't move during a shoot, these frogs are sensitive, tropical creatures and, since I don't know if they could survive the lower temps, I would never try this. Adrienne has survived much lower temps as she was brought to me as a found critter after a night of 37°. I love these guys and would NEVER cause them any discomfort (of course, to Rocky, everything I do is a discomfort).
